For years, I spent late Friday nights at school walking in circles. I just knew I was forgetting something. I didn't want to leave until I was sure that I could walk in Monday morning & go. So, I decided to create a "before leaving Friday" list. It's inside a page protector & I work on it throughout the week, checking each item off with a dry erase marker. My first responsibility will always be to my students, so finding time to even BE a coach will be a challenge. However, if I assume that I will have a certain amount of time per week dedicated to coaching duties, I suppose it would be a challenge to decide what is most important - spending time observing in the classroom, reflecting on what we observed, planning the next step... and to estimate how much time should be spent on each step. Not only do you have to decide how to spend your time, you have to work around another person's schedule and priorities. I think that could be a big barrier.","dateCreated":"1241562512","smartDate":"May 5, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"melissapardo","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/melissapardo","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"11783165","body":"One important barrier is to make sure I am getting my job accomplished as a teacher. I feel like if you have the right partner in a coaching experience, it may actually make your own teaching and planning easier and more efficient. If we are working towards the same goals (probably teaching the same grade level and subject area), then we may be able to use some of our "coaching" time to plan lessons together. They say the best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else. So, coaching other teachers should actually help us come up with our own new ideas. Of course we will still need to set aside some time to observe the other person and\/or reflect on student progress. Overall, I think spending a little more time coaching and being coached will make our time in the classroom more meaningful.","dateCreated":"1241582079","smartDate":"May 5, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"melissapardo","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/melissapardo","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"11793235","body":""Identify[ing] actions" is indeed a critical step in personal and team planning.
